It’s rumoured that a new international school will be opening in August. All teaching will be in English. The school will be located in mid Jutland, in Ikast. More details to follow.

Running group

Hi,

We have not been able to find an non-Dane running group. My Canadian fiancé and myself (Danish) would therefore like to start a non-Dane running group. We live in Hellerup so we could start from there OR Østerbro OR ?

Let us know if you are interested.

Apartment available in Osterbro

Hi all,

We finally found an apartment, but we had to take it June 1. So…our apartment, in lovely Østerbro, on Valdemar Holmers Gade, is available from June 1 – Aug. 1.

It’s a two floor apartment with the whole upstairs available for rent
- its a huge room with skylights and then downstairs has one Canadian girl staying in the bedroom there, a large kitchen, toilet, and bathroom (ie: with bath!). There’s also laundry and storage space and a lovely garden/backyard.

If you have anyone visiting, need a place yourself or know someone who needs a place PLEASE contact me – vanessajcarpenter@gmail.com.

Rent is 4000 a month – so 8000 for the two months. Including utilities (heat/water/electricity). Any questions – please call 28644529 (Vanessa from Vancouver).

I’ll be away May 2 – 10 so please email me during that time.

Moving from Denmark? Beware of this fraudster

A message of warning to expats who are moving away from Denmark. Several expats who have moved from Denmark have had the misfortune to be defrauded by a crook who masquerades as an international mover.

Kristian Vendelbo has been “at work” in the Copenhagen area for over 20 years and has been in trouble with the police, but so far has evaded prosecution. He may operate using an alias (Chris, for example) and has run moving firms under several names:
VIP Shipping
ship4expats (web address www.ship4expats.com)
expat-ship.com
A1 Shipping
A1 Relocation
Tilt Shipping
Vendelbo Spedition

Kristian Vendelbo is approximately 65 years old, with gray hair and reportedly looks like a shabby Santa Claus. He may pass himself off as working for a legitimate moving company, collect people’s money and goods and then never deliver anything or refund any money. He has advertised in The Copenhagen Post (but of course never paid for the ads). Many expats, including trusting Canadians, have regretted giving him large amounts of money and then never received their possessions.

DR TV has broadcast one program segment about Kristian Vendelbo and VIP Shipping. Following the TV broadcast, a Danish warehouse contacted the network to say they are holding 12 huge packing crates that Mr. Vendelbo deposited 2 years previously, never paid for and never collected.

More information is shown at this website:

www.bumph.dk

Expats must therefore be very cautious about being taken in by this fraudster or anyone matching his description, and report any incidents to the police. It would be nice to think the police would take an interest, but so far it appears they are merely compiling complaints and filing them under G.

Uncensored blogs about living in Denmark

Web site Denmark.dk has launched a sister site: blogs.denmark.dk

The purpose of the blogging site is to create a space for a nuanced debate about Denmark and the Danes. Bloggers use their own names and their comments are not censored. They all blog for free and write in English.

The site started with 6 blogs:

– Mikael, half Danish, half British, writing about the Danish bike culture.

– Li Yuan, a young Chinese student, studying at RU, writing about the meeting with Danes and Denmark.

– Jenny, a 28-year-old Swede, writing about fashion, night life and everything else that is going on in her life.

– Jarl, a newly educated architect, writing about Danish architecture.

– Søren who works at the Danish music program Boogie (DR) writing about the Danish music scene.

– Peter Andreas, working in advertising, writing about the Danes’ downsides.

The site invites more bloggers as well.

New rules governing Canadian citizenship

New rules affecting the Canadian Citizenship Act came into effect on April 17, 2009. A new law gives Canadian citizenship to certain people who have lost it and to others who will be recognized as citizens for the first time. The main part affecting Allcanuck members pertains to the citizenship of children who are born outside of Canada. See all the details at:

hockey playoffs

Hey!
Anyone know where I can watch Canucks playoff games in Copenhagen or even in Malmo?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Kris

Allcanuck event in April

For April, I’ve organized the following Saturday evening dinner. Come along if you’d like to dine and chat with your fellow Canucks.

When: Saturday, April 18th, 6 PM (followed by drinks later)
Where: “China” Chinese restaurant, Kobmagergade 63 (near the Round Tower), Copenhagen 1150

It’s near Norreport station, on the pedestrian street that runs down toward Stroget. Call my “cell” phone, 5015 1275 if you get lost.

The restaurant has a buffet for 75 kr, or you can order from the menu. It’s a fairly informal place and we hope to take over the back room. We will adjourn for drinks at another venue after dinner — if you’d like to join us for that at 8 o’clock, send me a text message or give me a phone call.

The following day, Sun. Apr. 19, our American and British friends (plus any friendly Canadians) can take part in a pot-luck brunch at Danchurch Aid, Nørregade 13, Copenhagen at 12:15 pm. Call or write me if you would like details.
