Rootbeer!

This is such a ridiculous question but it's been a hot few weeks and I would do anything for some rootbeer. Has anyone seen anywhere that sells it? Thanks!

Chic Copenhagen featured in New York Times

An article on the fashionable places to see, shop and dine in.
"Copenhagen is making news these days. Beyond clichéd tourist sites like the Little Mermaid and Tivoli amusement park, the Danish capital has emerged as one of the most eco-minded and creative cities in northern Europe. Top-notch contemporary art is proliferating, and a fledgling fashion scene is starting to take off. After dark, a bevy of innovative restaurants has burnished Scandinavia’s gastronomic credentials, most notably Noma, which in April was ranked first on the S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Meanwhile, upstart jazz and world music clubs are creating a night life without borders. And when it’s time to stagger home, Copenhagen finally obliges: the futuristic, driverless Metro is now open all day and night."

Moving to Denmark? New "one-stop shop" for immigrants opens

The Copenhagen city council has opened a service centre to help people relocating to Denmark. The new office is called the "Copenhagen International Service's One Stop Shop" and opened on June 1st.

The initiative started with a web site:
http://www.kk.dk/thinkincph.aspx
which presents information on employment, education, accommodation, leisure, culture, health care and taxes. (The information is most useful for people considering moving to Denmark.) The One Stop Shop brings together City departments and SKAT (the tax authority) to provide advice and assistance to help internationals navigate the bureaucracy of getting permits, etc.

Mette Justesen, International Service project manager, hopes the new centre will enable city residents to get a CPR card and necessary permits in a single visit of 45 minutes. Formerly, several visits to different departments in different locations were required.

With more than 10,000 people relocating to Copenhagen each year, the City is working with other government departments to try and make the entry process much easier.

new group for Dogs & People: Dogenhagen

There's a new meetup group specifically for dogs and their people, you can find the link here:

http://www.meetup.com/Dogenhagen/

Here's the description for the group:

For dogs that have people but find that their human(s) can be a bit slow at times when it comes to important dog issues. This is especially true for expat dogs whose human does not know where to find good places to run, meet other dogs, deal with dog/human communication, find affordable dog food, toys, snacks, vet care, etc.

This group can supply opportunities for dogs and their humans to meet in amiable surroundings and do what comes naturally: sniff butt, chase sticks, balls, play games of chase and be chased, etc., etc. (all with a good supply of snacks nearby, of course).

The group is also open to humans unaccompanied by dogs. If you would like to meet various dogs and their people to discuss dog care, dog adoption and any other aspect of the dog’s life you are welcome to join us.

Regards,

Andrew

Canada's Ambassador Made Famous

I'm sure you will be pleased to see a nice picture and story about Canada's Ambassador to Denmark, Peter Lundy in the Dec. 18 edition of The Copenhagen Post newspaper. The paper has an interview with Mr. Lundy and his wife Marlene, who have been kept busy during the recent climate-change conference.

New parents in Copenhagen

Are there any new moms and/or dads in Copenhagen who would be interested in getting together once in a while for an Allcanuck baby group / play group? We have a 5-month old daughter and would be happy to organize something if there are others who would like to hang out with the little ones, share info & experiences, meet other Canadian families, etc. Just send me an email if this sounds interesting to you.

FYI: Changing a Canadian driving license to Danish

Hi,

Just thought I'd put it out there that the rules regarding the changing of a Canadian driving license to a Danish one have recently changed, unfortunately. It used to be that, as a Canadian, one was exempt from an expensive driving test and could just trade across the board, as it were. Not any more, as it currently stands.

It is possible to get back our old standing, but that requires the Canadian embassy in Denmark sending an application to the police for a driving test exemption (based on the fact that our driving and licensing systems are similar). The only countries to have done this so far are Australia, Russia, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Switzerland. My husband and I have sent repeated emails to the Canadian embassy in Copenhagen to send in an application, but have received no reply. Maybe they need a few more prods by others....

Cheers,
Jessica

Running group

Hi,

We have not been able to find an non-Dane running group. My Canadian fiancé and myself (Danish) would therefore like to start a non-Dane running group. We live in Hellerup so we could start from there OR Østerbro OR ?

Let us know if you are interested.

Allison and Henrik
